Senegal has won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, following a 1:0 win over host nation, Morocco. The winning goal came from Pape Gueye in the first half of the extra time.
There was mild drama when the referee awarded a penalty to Morocco at stoppage-time. The Senegal squad were unhappy and rejected the decision, forcing them to leave the pitch to the dressing room. However, they later returned to the pitch and the match continues. But Brahim Diaz missed the penalty for the home team, sending the match to extra time.

The tournament hosts reached the final of the sport fiesta, courtesy of a win on penalties over Nigeria, while Senegal beat Egypt 1-0 in Tangiers after Sadio Mané’s late goal. Morocco reached the final for the first time since 2004 with the win over Nigeria, where they lost 2-1 to hosts, Tunisia.
Senegal last won the trophy in 2021, beating Egypt on penalties to win their first ever Africa Cup of Nations, after being defeated in the final in both 2002 and 2019.
The first half saw Senegal dominate, with an early back-post header for Pape Gueye and a fine Yassine Bounou save from Iliman Ndiaye denying them the lead. A head injury to Neil El Aynaoui brought an eight-minute stoppage in a more balanced second half.
Morocco aimed for their first AFCON title for 50 years, while Senegal got their second AFCON triumph after their 2021 win.
