Despite crashing out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco at the semi-finals stage, players from Nigeria and Senegal dominated the official Team of the Tournament released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) earlier this morning.
The Super Eagles and the Teranga Lions provided the bulk of the starting eleven, reflecting their impressive performances throughout the competition, even though the Super Eagles couldn’t make it to the finals.
Nigeria were strongly represented by a trio of Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Calvin Bassey, all of whom played key roles for the Super Eagles during the tournament. Osimhen’s attacking presence, Lookman’s creativity and goals, and Bassey’s defensive solidity earned them deserved places in the (CAF) selected lineup.
Senegal also had a significant representation, with four players named in the team. Star forward Sadio Mané led the Senegalese contingent, underlining his influence and leadership despite the intense competition.
Tournament hosts Morocco were equally well represented, with four of their players included in the official starting eleven, a recognition of their strong showing on home soil.
The CAF Team of the Tournament selection highlights the consistent quality displayed by Senegal and Nigeria, while also acknowledging the impact made by Morocco and other standout performers across the championship.
