Sevilla Set to Sack Almeyda After Valencia Defeat
1 (1)

Sevilla are reportedly preparing to sack head coach Matias Almeyda following their weekend defeat to Valencia, with the club already taking internal steps toward his dismissal. Almeyda only took charge of Sevilla in mid 2025, arriving with a reputation for disciplined, high-intensity football and a track record of success across multiple leagues.

However, his tenure in Andalusia has fallen short of expectations, with inconsistent results leaving the club struggling to keep pace in both domestic and European competitions. Before his move to Sevilla, Almeyda built an impressive managerial résumé. He first gained prominence at River Plate, where he guided the club back to the Argentine top flight after their historic relegation.

He later enjoyed success in Mexico with Guadalajara winning the Liga MX title and the CONCACAF Champions League. His coaching journey also took him to the United States with San Jose Earthquakes, where he was known for his tactical flexibility, and then to Greece with AEK Athens, where he secured a domestic double, further enhancing his reputation in European football.

Despite that pedigree, results at Sevilla have not met the club’s high standards, and the defeat to Valencia appears to have been the final straw. Club officials are now expected to move quickly in appointing a successor as they attempt to stabilise their season. An official confirmation of Almeyda’s departure is expected in the coming days. AfrikTimes is closely monitoring the situation and will give the update as soon and the announcement is made.
