Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, a social critic and online personality, has publicly apologized to the Nigeria Police Force for wearing a police uniform in one of his recent videos. Earlier this week, Afriktimes reported that the police had criticized the unauthorized use of the uniform and launched an investigation into the incident.
In the video, which sparked public backlash, VeryDarkMan humorously referred to himself as the “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division” while dressed in a uniform resembling police attire. On Thursday, in response to the controversy, he released a video statement apologizing for the unauthorized use of clothing similar to official police uniforms.
VeryDarkMan also urged the public to seek proper authorization before wearing attire resembling police or law enforcement uniforms to prevent legal complications. After being questioned by police, he clarified, “I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way and tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.”
He further emphasized the importance of getting official approval for wearing any clothing that might resemble law enforcement uniforms to prevent misunderstandings.
In his post, he also extended thanks to his lawyer, Adeyanju Deji, for his legal support in the matter.
