The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested four officers for allegedly robbing a Nigerian rapper of jewellery valued at R20 million (approximately N1.9 billion). The suspects, Jacobus Groenewald, Bradley Minnaar, Mthuthuzeli Mafanya, and Bathandwa Soldati, reportedly stormed the rapper’s residence in Llandudno, Cape Town, on September 14 and stole the valuable items.
The SAPS Anti-Corruption Unit apprehended the officers, accusing them of orchestrating the robbery at the artist’s home. The suspects appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Thursday, facing charges of aggravated robbery.
According to a source from Cape Argus, the four officers were part of an eight-member group that used SAPS uniforms and vehicles to rob individuals in wealthy neighborhoods. The officers allegedly entered the rapper’s home under the pretense of searching for a wanted Nigerian but instead stole luxury items including Rolex watches, gold bracelets, emeralds, and ivory artifacts. The source added that the officers left behind incriminating evidence such as fingerprints, revealing their involvement in the planned robbery.
