Academic activities are set to resume at Taraba State University (TSU) following the suspension of a month-long strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) after a ₦500 million intervention by the Taraba State Government.

The industrial action, which began on February 18, was called off after ASUU and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) reached an agreement with the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas.

Chairperson of ASUU at TSU, Joshua Mbave, confirmed the development, describing the agreement as a positive outcome of sustained engagement between the unions and the state government.

“We reached a healthy agreement with the state government this afternoon, and the indefinite strike action embarked upon by the union is now suspended,” Mbave said.

He commended the state government and relevant stakeholders for their intervention, noting that the move would restore normal academic activities at the university.

The ₦500 million package, according to him, is aimed at settling part of the outstanding salaries and allowances owed to staff, which formed the basis of the strike.

Mbave, however, urged the government to ensure full implementation of the agreement, stressing that consistency in meeting obligations is essential to maintaining industrial harmony in the institution.

The strike had disrupted academic programmes and left students in uncertainty, with lectures and other academic engagements suspended during the period.

With the suspension now in effect, students are expected to return to classes in the coming days as the university management works to adjust the academic calendar.

The development marks a significant step toward restoring stability at Taraba State University, although stakeholders say sustained commitment from the government will be crucial to preventing future disruptions.
