By Tinubu Appoints Obih, Akinfeleye, Others to University Governing Councils
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. Obih’s appointment follows the death of a member of the council.
The President also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, a renowned communications specialist, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
This was disclosed in a press statement on Tuesday signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The statement noted that Akinfeleye is a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos and the Chairman of the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.
Additionally, the President appointed Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. He also named Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian of the university.
Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, mni, Retired Colonel – Nigerian Army (FSS, MSS), is the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano. He is the current Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria, as well as a Governing Council Member of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
A retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army, Prof. Yakasai is currently the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano. He serves as Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and is a governing council member at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
He obtained an MBBS degree at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before winning a scholarship from the European Economic Commission to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. There, he became a member and later a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Prof. Yakasai also earned a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester and completed fellowships with the International College of Surgeons (FICS, USA) and the American College of Surgeons.
He previously served as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board, Kano State.
Formerly a member of the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, Prof. Akinfeleye replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
