Socio-political organization Afenifere has voiced strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing a lack of official empathy toward the “agonizing and distressing” conditions currently faced by Nigerians. In a statement following a recent meeting at the residence of its leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, Afenifere expressed disappointment at what it called the government’s “detached” response to the “widespread hardship, persistent insecurity, and crippling hunger” affecting the populace.

The communique, released by Afenifere Deputy Leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Deputy Secretary-General Alade Rotimi-John, highlighted concerns about government policies that the group claims worsen the public’s hardship, pointing to the recent increase in fuel prices as an example. According to Afenifere, this price hike, among other policies, underscores a troubling trend in governance.

The group further noted an absence of a clear and effective program from the Tinubu administration aimed at alleviating the ongoing struggles faced by Nigerians. “Afenifere reviewed the worsening social and economic conditions under the Bola Tinubu presidency,” the statement read, underscoring the “distressing state” of the country. The group urged the administration to adopt a more empathetic and proactive approach in addressing the concerns of the people.
