A tragic incident occurred in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Saturday when a 50-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel, was fatally struck by a train near Arena Shopping Mall.
Reports from AfrikTimes Online revealed that the victim’s sister, whose name is yet to be disclosed, informed the police after receiving a distressing call around 9 a.m., notifying her that her brother had been killed by the moving train.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the Mosafejo Division was alerted at approximately 1:33 p.m. A team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the scene, where the area was photographed, and the body was taken to a public morgue for an autopsy.
The case has been handed over to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation. The exact details of the accident remain unclear at this time.
This tragic incident follows a similar case in August when another man was struck and killed by a train in the Mushin area while walking along the Cappa railway tracks. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, in a statement by its spokesman, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed that the man died instantly from severe injuries caused by the collision.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding both accidents are ongoing
