Abia, Nigeria- The Nigerian Army announced today that troops of 144 Battalion (Rear) under Operation Eastern Sanity arrested three suspected criminals and recovered a stolen Mack truck during a night patrol.
The arrest followed credible intelligence on suspected criminal activities in the Akpaa area in the early hours of 11 February 2026, leading troops to swiftly mobilise and carry out the operation, the Army said.
According to the Nigerian Army, the suspects identified as Darlington Ubochi, 25, Chinedu Abara, 33, and Julius Chinemem Godwin, 29, all from Abia State, were arrested in possession of the truck.
The Mack truck with registration number T 4477 LA was reportedly stolen on 8 February 2026 along Port Harcourt Road in Aba before being recovered at Opobo Junction, the Army stated.
The Army stated that preliminary investigations confirmed the vehicle had earlier been declared stolen, while efforts are ongoing to move it to the 144 Battalion Forward Operating Base in Osisioma, with suspects currently in custody.
The operation reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and denying criminal elements freedom of action within its area of responsibility, the Army emphasised.
