Troops Nab Suspected Gunrunner, Seize Six PKT Machine Guns in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of weapons during an intelligence-driven operation in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, carried out on February 12, followed credible intelligence received by soldiers at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari, prompting a swift and coordinated response.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, was apprehended after troops intercepted him during the operation. A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered six PKT machine guns, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, ₦170,000 in cash, a Peugeot 504 car, a mobile phone, and other personal belongings.
According to the Army, the successful interception prevented the illegal movement of weapons into Taraba State and strengthened ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance. He also appreciated members of the public for providing timely intelligence and urged residents to remain alert and continue supporting security agencies in the fight against crime.
