South African singer Tyla emerged as one of the standout winners at the 2026 Grammy Awards, taking home the Best African Music Performance award for her hit track Push 2 Start. She triumphed over a strong lineup of nominees that included Nigeria’s Davido, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy.
Tyla’s victory in the category marked a major international achievement, as she edged out some of Afrobeats’ biggest names to claim the prize.
The night proved more challenging for Burna Boy, who later missed out in the Best Global Music Album category. His album No Sign of Weakness lost to Brazilian music icons Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, whose live project Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo won the award.
Other nominees in the global album category included projects by Siddhant Bhatia, Youssou N’Dour, Shakti, and Anoushka Shankar alongside Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar.
