UEFA has announced that disciplinary proceedings have been instigated against Pedro Neto for unsporting behaviour in accordance with Article 15 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.
The action follows an incident during Chelsea’s 5–2 defeat to Paris Saint‑Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 encounter.
Late in stoppage time, the Portugal international pushed a ball boy while attempting to quickly retrieve the ball for a throw-in, causing the youngster to fall backward into the advertising boards and sparking a brief confrontation involving players from both teams.
Although the referee took no immediate action during the match, UEFA later opened disciplinary proceedings over the incident.
Neto apologised after the game, saying the act was a reaction in the heat of the moment and confirming that he had spoken to the ball boy to express his regret. UEFA said its disciplinary bodies will review the case and take a decision in due course.
