Manchester, UK – On June 18, 2025, Guinness World Records (GWR) named Jamaican sprinting legend Usain Bolt a GWR ICON, recognizing his unparalleled achievement in the 100m sprint.

The accolade, presented by GWR Editor-In-Chief Craig Glenday during the organization’s 70th anniversary celebrations, honors Bolt’s enduring impact on athletics, particularly his world-record 9.58-second 100m run at the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin.

Bolt, now 38, expressed pride in the recognition, which highlights not only his speed but also his global influence as a sports icon.

The 100m record, set over 15 years ago, remains unbroken, as do his 200m (19.19 seconds) and 4x100m relay (36.84 seconds) world records. Bolt’s eight Olympic gold medals further cement his legacy as one of the greatest athletes in history.

GWR’s tribute also acknowledged sprinter’s cultural impact, playfully contrasting his record with quirky 100m categories like running backwards or in high heels.

The ceremony underscored Bolt’s role in inspiring generations, with GWR celebrating his achievements as a benchmark for excellence in sport.
