Istanbul, Turkey – Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has officially signed for Galatasaray from Napoli in a landmark €75 million deal, setting a new record for the most expensive incoming transfer in Turkish football history. The move comes after a highly successful loan spell in the 2024/25 season, during which Osimhen netted 37 goals and provided 8 assists in 41 appearances, leading Galatasaray to both the Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup.

The €75 million agreement significantly surpasses the previous Turkish transfer record of €19.5–20 million paid by Fenerbahce for Youssef En-Nesyri. Osimhen’s impact during his loan, including 26 league goals and a historic 36 goals in all Turkish competitions, the highest by a foreign player in a single season, cemented his status as a fan favourite and prompted Galatasaray to push for a permanent transfer.

Key details of the deal include an upfront payment of €40 million and a further €35 million in instalments to be completed by the end of 2026, a 10% sell-on clause for Napoli, entitling them to a share of any future transfer profit, a clause preventing Osimhen from joining another Serie A club before 2027, with a double-fee penalty for breach, and a four-year contract commencing with the 2025/26 season, with Osimhen earning €15 million net per year, a €1 million loyalty bonus, and €5 million in image rights.

Osimhen’s move follows a turbulent end to his time at Napoli. Despite being instrumental in their historic 2022/23 Serie A title win, scoring 26 goals and becoming the first African to win the Golden Boot in the league’s 125-year history, his relationship with the club soured during the 2023/24 season, ultimately leading to his exclusion from the squad and a subsequent loan move to Galatasaray.

Despite strong interest from several top European sides and a lucrative offer from Saudi club Al Hilal, Osimhen opted to return to Istanbul, citing his deep connection to the Galatasaray “family” and his desire to continue their domestic and continental pursuit under manager Okan Buruk.

Galatasaray confirmed the transfer on 31 July 2025, with Osimhen’s arrival in Istanbul greeted by jubilant fans. The club had tracked his flight live on social media, underscoring the excitement surrounding his return.

The move marks a bold statement of intent from Galatasaray as they look to solidify their dominance in Turkey and make a strong push in the UEFA Champions League.
