The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday received the remains of Senator Barinada Mpigi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister said Wike arrived at the airport at about 5:30 a.m., where he joined other dignitaries to receive the body of the late lawmaker, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

Among those present were Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; Senator Philip Aduda; House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda; and Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, among others.
Recall that Senator Mpigi died in London on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.

The FCT Minister had earlier visited the family in London to commiserate with them and oversee arrangements for the repatriation of the senator’s remains to Nigeria.
