Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zullum, has said he does not know who will succeed him when his tenure ends in 2027, dismissing speculations surrounding the state’s next governorship race.
The governor made the clarification during a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders held at the Government House in Maiduguri, amid growing rumours about possible contenders for the state’s top seat.
“I have no candidate for any position, and I do not know who will succeed me. I have entrusted the choice of leaders to Almighty Allah, in line with the democratic will of the party members and the people of Borno State,” Zullum said.
The meeting was attended by party leaders, members of the National Assembly, and members of the State Executive Council, among other stakeholders.
In recent weeks, supporters of various political figures in the state have taken to the media to promote their preferred aspirants. However, no individual has formally declared interest in contesting the governorship position ahead of the 2027 elections.
