Abuja, Nigeria

‎‎Following a formal complaint submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), concerning the unavailability of a significant number of players from one of the participating clubs, the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has announced a temporary suspension of league activities, with fixtures set to resume on February 18, 2026.

‎The complaint cited the involvement of more than five players with the Nigeria U-20 Women’s National Team, a situation that affected the club’s ability to field a full and competitive squad.

‎In a circular addressed to all clubs and sighted by AfrikTimes, the (NWFL) Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, confirmed the postponement, noting that the move was taken in the interest of competitive balance and fairness across the league.

‎The adjustment has also led to changes in the league calendar. While the NWFL had initially planned a mid-season break after Matchday 9, the revised schedule will now see the break reduced to one week.

‎Reacting to this development, Delta Queens FC commended the (NWFL) for its proactive approach to safeguarding the integrity of the competition. The club acknowledged that although the postponement alters the original timetable, it is a necessary step to ensure a level playing field for all teams.

‎The Asaba based club in a statement affirmed its commitment to making productive use of the break to fine-tune preparations ahead of the league’s resumption. The club reiterated its focus on strong performances in the second phase of the season and pledged continued support for the NWFL’s efforts to ensure a smooth and successful continuation of the campaign.
