By Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Government announced yesterday that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) seized several waste carts and arrested one person during an early morning enforcement operation on Lagos Island.
According to LAWMA, the carts were intercepted at Isale-Eko during a coordinated dawn operation aimed at curbing unauthorised waste disposal and preventing the return of illegal dump sites in previously cleared areas.
The Authority said 42-year-old Muritala Suleiman from Zamfara State was arrested around 1:31 a.m. at Tinubu Square for illegally dumping waste.
LAWMA added that its Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement operatives continue to conduct early hour monitoring across the state to tackle persistent black spots and ensure compliance with approved waste disposal channels.
