The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) has commenced the distribution of learning materials provided under the 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention programme to public schools across the state.

‎The exercise was formally inaugurated on Tuesday in Yola by the Executive Chairman of ADSUBEB, Murtala Babayi, who explained that the initiative is designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in basic education.

‎According to him, the intervention includes the distribution of 36,600 English Language and Mathematics textbooks for Primary One to Three pupils, as well as 9,999 textbooks for Nursery One to Three classes. Additional materials include 20 talking computers, 20 interactive whiteboards, and five Boxer motorcycles donated by Zenith Bank to support school monitoring and supervision.

‎Babayi stated that the programme aims to improve literacy and numeracy skills, promote digital learning, and strengthen the monitoring of Universal Basic Education (UBE) activities across Adamawa State.

‎“The initiative is targeted at improving teaching and learning outcomes, boosting early literacy and numeracy, enhancing digital learning, and supporting effective supervision of schools,” he said.

‎He assured that the materials would be equitably distributed to public schools to address existing learning gaps and assist teachers in meeting modern educational standards.

‎The ADSUBEB chairman also commended UBEC and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for their consistent support to the education sector, particularly through the timely payment of counterpart funding that enables Adamawa State to benefit from UBEC interventions.

‎In his remarks, Permanent Member I of ADSUBEB, Adiel Kurdah, described the distribution as a major step toward consolidating progress in the education sector, stressing that instructional materials are critical to achieving quality learning outcomes.

‎Representing the Adamawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, its Secretary, Baba Sani, reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to effective oversight and sustained funding of education programmes.

‎Similarly, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Adamawa and Education Secretary of Girei Local Government Area, Mohammed Tela, highlighted the important role of local governments in ensuring that the materials reach intended beneficiaries at the grassroots.

‎He assured that the textbooks, ICT tools, and logistics would be judiciously distributed to schools across the state in line with government objectives.

‎The intervention is expected to significantly strengthen basic education delivery and improve learning standards in Adamawa’s public schools.
