The Federal Government has expressed sorrow over the tragic collapse of the Rubaya Coltan Mine in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulting in the loss of more than two hundred lives, with many others injured.
The Federal Government’s condolence message was conveyed in a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement quoted the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, expresses condolences to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly to the families of the victims who lost their lives in this devastating incident. 
“Nigeria also conveys its deep sympathy to those injured and to the affected communities during this period of immense grief, and prays for the quick recovery of the wounded.”
“We note with concern the circumstances surrounding the incident, which reportedly occurred following heavy rainfall and affected artisanal miners and residents in the area. The magnitude of the tragedy underscores the severe humanitarian challenges confronting vulnerable communities in resource-rich regions, as well as the risks associated with unsafe and informal mining practices,” the statement added.
Ebienfa reiterated that Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He, however, commends the efforts of local authorities and emergency response workers in recovering victims, providing medical assistance to the injured, and ensuring the safety of affected populations.
