Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved a fresh ₦500 million for the housing and vehicle loan schemes for civil servants, and has also raised the loan ceilings and the allowances paid to officers sent on official duty tours.
The state Head of Service, Segun Odusanya, announced the approvals in Akure on Monday while briefing journalists on the programme for this year’s Public Service Week. He said the measures were meant to lift workers’ welfare and productivity and to respond to current economic conditions. The new ceilings and allowance rates were not stated.
The revised duty tour allowance applies to approved assignments within Nigeria and outside the country. Odusanya described the additional ₦500 million as seed funding for the two loan schemes.
The Head of Service said every officer due for promotion in the 2026 cycle has received a promotion letter, and preparations for the 2027 exercise have begun. The promotions cover the mainstream civil service, primary and secondary school teachers and relevant government agencies.
He added that the government has kept up payment of salaries and allowances, including leave bonuses.
Pensioners
Odusanya said the state is steadily clearing gratuity arrears inherited from the previous administration, owed to retirees of the state and local governments. The government has also harmonised pensions for retired heads of service and permanent secretaries, a step he said recognises the service of senior officers.
Odusanya urged public servants to repay these interventions with dedication, discipline, integrity and accountability, saying better welfare should lead to better service delivery.
Public Service Week programme
The week runs under the theme “Harnessing Public Service for Good Governance” and lasts six days, starting with Monday’s press briefing. It will include a health walk, a novelty football match, a public service lecture, a panel discussion, and Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services. Odusanya said it is meant to promote professionalism, accountability, institutional solidarity and better service delivery.
