Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Adetokunbo Wahab, has appealed to residents to remain calm following rainfall that resulted in a temporary tidal lock up on Lagos Island.
Mr. Wahab said the situation was short term, explaining that the rainfall coincided with a tidal condition that briefly affected water discharge in the area.
According to him, the water is expected to discharge naturally as the tide recedes within a few minutes, with conditions improving thereafter.
The commissioner stated that there was no need to raise tensions over what he described as a transient development.
He added that monitoring teams of the ministry are closely observing the situation and will continue to provide updates as necessary.
Mr. Wahab urged residents to remain measured and responsible.
