The Federal Ministry of Works has continued its nationwide media tour with the commissioning of completed intervention projects and inspection of ongoing works in Adamawa State, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on infrastructure development.
Cham–Numan Section of Gombe–Yola Road
One of the major projects visited is the Cham–Numan section of the Gombe–Yola Road, described as a critical economic corridor linking Gombe and Adamawa states. The route is among the 2,064 projects inherited from previous administrations.
The Federal Controller of Works in Adamawa State, Engr. Dimas Tuwai, explained that the road had suffered years of neglect, requiring significant design adjustments. Due to variations in scope, boulders’ fill was used instead of stone base, leading to an increase in the contract sum from the initial ₦9 billion awarded in May 2017 to about ₦16 billion. Inflation and other contractual factors later pushed the cost to ₦43 billion.
According to him, the project is currently 44 per cent completed, with about 13 kilometres remaining. He expressed optimism that the road would be completed within the year.
Representing the contractor, Messrs CGC (Nigeria) Limited, the company’s Public Relations Officer, Simeon Omale, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to meeting the delivery timeline, assuring that the project would be fully completed by 2027.
Jabbi–Lamba Road Intervention
The delegation also inspected the ongoing construction of the Jabbi–Lamba Road, another intervention under the Renewed Hope programme.
The contractor, M/S Decency Associates Ltd, described the project as highly beneficial to communities along the corridor. The firm disclosed that work has reached about 40 per cent completion. Awarded on 30 December 2024, the road is expected to be completed within the next three to four months.
Professional Bodies Endorse Quality
The Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Adamawa State Branch, Prof. Engr. Bashiru Aliyu, expressed satisfaction with the standard and pace of work. He noted that the community did not anticipate such significant progress within the current timeframe.
Similarly, the Chairman of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Adamawa State, Engr. Wasinda Jonathan, described the intervention as commendable, affirming that the regulatory body is satisfied with the quality of execution.
Doctors’ Quarters Road Commissioned in Yola
A rehabilitated Doctors’ Quarters Road in Yola, within the Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, was also formally commissioned as part of the 260 completed Emergency/Special Intervention Projects. The road, executed by Clinton Enterprise Ltd, has significantly improved access, reduced flooding, and enhanced property values in the area.
Performing the commissioning on behalf of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Adamawa State, Comrade Ibrahim Kado, commended the Federal Government for delivering impactful infrastructure.
Community representative Malam Jubril Mohammed Iliasu expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that residents are no longer apprehensive about the rainy season due to improved drainage and road conditions.
The projects collectively underscore ongoing federal efforts to strengthen connectivity, boost economic activities, and enhance living standards across Adamawa State.
