The Bauchi State Implementation Office of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has distributed an additional 40 tractors, 100 motorcycles and nine heavy-duty machines to strengthen agricultural productivity and environmental management ahead of the 2026 farming season.

‎The tractors were allocated across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state, with each LGA receiving two additional units. The heavy-duty machines were handed over to the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), the Rural Roads Agency (RARA), and the State Urban Maintenance Agency. Meanwhile, the motorcycles were distributed to extension officers, LGA agriculture officers and personnel of the Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA).

‎Speaking during the distribution ceremony held on Saturday in Bauchi, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed described the World Bank-supported ACReSAL initiative as critical to tackling climate change, combating land degradation and boosting agricultural productivity in the state.

‎He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging development partnerships to improve the welfare of Bauchi residents, noting that the tractors and equipment would reduce the burden on farmers and relevant agencies while accelerating agricultural production and environmental restoration efforts.

‎In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Housing and Environment and Chairman of ACReSAL, Rt. Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, expressed appreciation to the governor for his continuous support and guidance, saying Bauchi’s ACReSAL implementation stands out due to the governor’s clear directives to ensure programmes benefit all citizens.

‎Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of ACReSAL in Bauchi, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, explained that the additional tractors were procured to reach more smallholder farmers across the 20 LGAs.

‎According to him, N36 million was generated during the last farming season from the initial 20 tractors distributed. He expressed confidence that with three tractors now allocated to each LGA, revenue could exceed N100 million in the coming season.

‎Kabir added that Bauchi is leading in the implementation of ACReSAL projects among the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stressing that all activities are being carried out in line with World Bank policy guidelines.

‎He further disclosed that the programme has reclaimed degraded lands, promoted climate-smart agriculture and facilitated year-round farming by providing necessary inputs and suitable land for cultivation.

‎To address recurring clashes between herders and farmers, ACReSAL has also established water points in identified communities across the state, aimed at reducing tensions and supporting peaceful coexistence.

‎The project coordinator assured that the programme would continue implementing its outlined interventions until its official completion in 2028.
