Abuja, Nigeria
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, has launched free WiFi services for passengers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The service was unveiled at the Lagos terminal by FAAN Managing Director/Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, represented by Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood.
Kuku described the initiative as a major milestone aimed at improving passenger experience and strengthening digital infrastructure at Nigerian airports. She revealed that the service will soon be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and later deployed to international airports in Enugu, Port Harcourt and Kano within three months.
“In 21st century Nigeria, no Nigerian airport should be an offline island,” she stated, noting that the collaboration with MTN Nigeria demonstrates how effective Public-Private Partnership (PPP) alignment can modernise infrastructure and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
She said the project reflects the value of public-private partnerships in modernising national infrastructure and advancing the country’s digital economy, while assuring travellers that FAAN remains committed to improving service delivery and operational efficiency.
MTN Nigeria Chief Executive Officer Karl Toriola, represented by Chief Enterprise Business Officer Lynda Saint-Nwafor, stated that the connectivity would be reliable, secure and accessible to all airport users.
“We are proud to announce the launch of free WiFi service across major airports in Nigeria in partnership with FAAN. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving passenger experience and enhancing digital accessibility,” Toriola said.
He noted that airports are critical hubs for business travellers, tourists, aviation workers and service providers who depend on seamless internet access. The telecom company also announced awareness campaigns at the Lagos and Abuja airports over the next month to encourage usage.
The partnership is part of FAAN’s broader plan to modernise Nigeria’s aviation sector and position the country among Africa’s leaders in digitally enabled airport services.
