By Manchester City have completed a deal to sign highly-rated teenage midfielder Keir McMeekin from Heart of Midlothian F.C., as the Premier League champions continue to invest in emerging talent for the future.
The Scottish youngster, who rose through the ranks at Hearts’ academy, has been widely regarded as one of the country’s standout prospects. Known for his technical ability, composure in possession and vision in midfield, McMeekin has drawn praise for dictating play well beyond his years.
Coaches in Edinburgh were sufficiently impressed to invite him to train with the first team during the 2023/24 season, despite being only 15 at the time. His rapid development attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, but Manchester City ultimately presented the most convincing proposal to the player and his family.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that all formalities for the move have been completed, with the midfielder also passing his medical ahead of the transfer.
Having turned 16 earlier this year, McMeekin became eligible for senior football and marked another milestone in February with his Lowland League debut for Hearts B. He has also featured prominently for Scotland’s youth national teams, scoring in an Under-17 fixture earlier this year to further enhance his growing reputation.
While other national associations are reportedly monitoring his eligibility, the midfielder remains focused on finishing the season strongly in Scotland. He recently played a key role in Hearts’ run to the latter stages of the Scottish Youth Cup.
McMeekin is expected to officially link up with Manchester City in the summer, where he will join the club’s acclaimed youth system at the City Football Academy as part of plans to accelerate his development.
