Matchday 30 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), which kicked off on Saturday, March 14, produced several surprising results, with late goals and unexpected defeats leaving fans stunned.
On Saturday, Bendel Insurance secured a 2–1 victory over Kun Khalifat, courtesy of two well-taken first-half goals from the Benin-based side.
Sunday’s fixtures also delivered intense encounters. Bayelsa United claimed all three points with a 2–1 win over Warri Wolves, while El-Kanemi Warriors and Katsina United settled for a 1–1 draw. Enyimba FC defeated Plateau United 2–0. Second-placed Enugu Rangers could only secure a point in a draw against Kwara United, while Kano Pillars also shared points with Niger Tornadoes.
In another twist, Remo Stars defeated third-placed Nasarawa United 2–1 in a closely contested encounter.
In Ibadan, Shooting Stars SC secured a dramatic 3–2 victory over Wikki Tourists. The win lifted Shooting Stars to fourth place on the league table. Recall that AfrikTimes reported that the Oluyole boys had earlier recorded an important victory over league leaders Rivers United on Thursday, March 12.
Elsewhere, Barau FC edged Abia Warriors 2–1 at home, while Ikorodu City are set to host Rivers United in a scheduled fixture at 4:00 pm on Monday.
With eight matches remaining before the end of the season, the title race remains wide open, as the top teams continue to battle for supremacy. Rivers United also have two outstanding matches, which could prove decisive in the race for the title.
