Manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has wave aside the criticism over his European record at the club, responding with humor to suggestions that he could leave with just one UEFA Champions League title.
Speaking in a light-hearted tone, Guardiola joked about the scrutiny surrounding his tenure, saying, “Oh, everybody wants to fire me, right?!”, a remark that drew laughter and underscored his relaxed stance on the issue.
The Spaniard, who led City to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title in 2023, also hinted at the inevitability of his eventual departure, while making it clear that his exit is not imminent.
“One day I will come here and say: Bye bye, guys! And still I’m here, one more year of contract,” he said.
Guardiola’s comments come amid ongoing debates about his legacy in Europe, despite his domestic dominance with City and a historic treble-winning campaign. However, the 53-year-old appears focused on continuing his project at the Etihad, dismissing speculation about his future with characteristic wit.
