The President of the Adamawa Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ADCCIMA) has highlighted the economic challenges facing businesses in Nigeria while commending ongoing infrastructure development in Adamawa State. The remarks were made during the Chamber’s 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM), where members reviewed the performance of the business community and discussed strategies to strengthen economic growth.

In his address, the President noted that the national economy in 2025 remained difficult for businesses due to rising costs of production inputs and low returns on investment. He explained that although there was moderate growth in Gross Domestic Product driven by stable oil prices and increased non-oil exports such as cocoa and liquefied natural gas, many businesses continued to struggle with inflation and reduced consumer purchasing power.

The report also indicated that farmers and manufacturers were among the hardest hit sectors, facing high costs of fertilizers, electricity, and other essential inputs. According to the Chamber, these challenges resulted in lower agricultural yields, reduced industrial output, and higher prices of goods and services across the country.

The President commended the efforts of the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for sustaining infrastructure development across the state. He cited the construction of flyovers, underpasses, and a 25-kilometre dual carriage western bypass road in the state capital as major projects that have improved transportation and supported economic activities.

He further congratulated the governor for receiving the Federal Government Infrastructure Award for the third time, noting that continued investment in rural feeder roads would enhance agricultural productivity and improve market access for farmers in rural communities.

On institutional activities, the Chamber disclosed that it participated in several stakeholder engagements during the year, including meetings organized by the World Bank and the Ministry of Rural Infrastructure to review policies related to rural road development. The Chamber also took part in the Youth Entrepreneurs Summit organized by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) in Abuja, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among young people.

The report further revealed that the Chamber engaged in business reform initiatives under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms programme and attended a nationwide stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) in Yola. The meeting reviewed progress made in improving the business environment and strengthening commercial dispute resolution mechanisms.

The President concluded by reaffirming the Chamber’s commitment to supporting private sector growth, improving the business climate, and fostering partnerships that will enhance economic development in Adamawa State. He urged members to remain active in Chamber activities and collaborate with government and stakeholders to address economic challenges facing businesses.
