Oyo Police Recover Additional Weapons, Vehicles, Motorcycles in Ongoing Investigation of Surii Ilupeju, Four Others

The Oyo State Police Command has recovered additional weapons, vehicles, motorcycles, and other incriminating exhibits linked to the arrest of Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as Surii Ilupeju, and four other suspects arrested during a raid in Ibadan.

AfrikTimes earlier reported that operatives of the Command, stormed the residence of Surii Ilupeju at Gbeku Area, Olodo, Ibadan, on June 12, 2026. During the operation, five suspects were arrested, including Ahmed Nafiu, 43; Olukunmi Olaniyi, 36; Femi Odeyinde, 53; Jelili Akinade, 50; and Muhideen Adio, 27.

Items initially recovered from the suspects included a pump-action gun, a cut-to-size single-barrel gun, eight live cartridges, a native bulletproof vest, two bottles of suspected charm-induced syrup, and assorted charms.

In a follow-up statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that further investigations and interrogation of the suspects led to the recovery of additional exhibits linked to the case.

“Further to the earlier press release issued by the Oyo State Police Command on 13th June, 2026, on the arrest of one Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as ‘Surii Ilupeju’, and four others in connection with suspected armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms, the Command wishes to inform members of the public that ongoing investigations and further interrogation of the suspects have led to the recovery of additional exhibits linked to the case,” the statement read.

According to the Command, the newly recovered firearms and ammunition include one pump-action gun, one single-barrel gun, one cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two locally made single-barrel pistols, one locally made double-barrel pistol, 23 live cartridges, and eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.

The police also recovered several vehicles suspected to be connected to the syndicate. These include a Mazda bus with registration number FFE 08 XB, a Hummer bus (MUS 246 CK), a BAW bus (KTU 688 YG), three Toyota buses, including those with registration numbers BDG 117 YK and BRS 842 TW, two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSD 68 CJ and BDG 986 SA, a Ford Sharon (FKJ 39 EW), a Toyota Previa, and a Nissan Cabstar.

In addition, the Command recovered a Suzuki Inazuma power bike, a blue Honda motorcycle, a red Honda motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, as well as large quantities of Accord Party-branded hats, shirts, and face caps.

The police said efforts are ongoing to establish the ownership of the recovered items and determine their possible connection to reported criminal activities within and outside Oyo State..

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.
