By Brighton & Hove Albion secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Liverpool in their Premier League clash on Saturday, boosting their campaign with an impressive home win.
Danny Welbeck was the hero for Brighton, scoring twice to hand his side all three points. Welbeck opened the scoring in the 14th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to put the hosts ahead.
Liverpool responded in the 30th minute through Milos Kerkez, who finished off a quick attacking move after Brighton’s defence failed to clear their lines, bringing the visitors level before halftime.
However, Brighton regained the lead in the 56th minute when Welbeck struck again, finishing from close range after a well-worked team move to seal the victory.
Despite pushing for an equaliser in the closing stages, Liverpool struggled to break down Brighton’s organised defence and were left frustrated as the Seagulls held on for the win.
The result sees Brighton climb into the top half of the Premier League table, improving on their previous 14th-place standing, while Liverpool who came into the match around 6th remain under pressure in the race for European qualification.
The defeat adds to Liverpool’s recent inconsistent run of form, while Brighton continue their push up the table with another strong performance in front of their home fans.
