The Nigeria Police Force in Taraba State has debunked a viral video circulating on social media that alleged planned terrorist attacks in parts of the state, particularly in Takum and Donga scheduled for March 23, 2026.
In a press statement issued in Jalingo, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, described the video as false, fabricated, and intended to create fear and disrupt public peace and security. The command reassured residents that there is no cause for panic, emphasizing that security agencies are fully aware of the situation and have already taken proactive measures.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has directed the deployment of intelligence-driven security operations across the state to safeguard lives and property and prevent any breach of peace. Security operatives have reportedly been strategically positioned in critical locations, while surveillance activities have been intensified to ensure public safety.
The police urged residents, especially those in the affected communities, to continue their normal daily activities without fear, while remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious movements, persons, or objects to the nearest security agency. Authorities stressed that timely and credible information from citizens would enhance rapid response efforts and strengthen security coordination.
The command also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information capable of inciting panic and advised residents to rely only on official sources for accurate updates regarding security matters.
Despite the police assurances, tension has reportedly risen in parts of southern Taraba, with some residents in Takum and Donga fleeing their homes due to fears triggered by the viral video. Communities mentioned as potential targets include New Gboko and Chanchanji in Takum, as well as Tordamisa in Donga Local Government Area, areas largely inhabited by farming populations.
The viral message was reportedly circulated by Judd Saul, Executive Director of an organization known as Ministry Equipping the Persecuted, who warned of possible attacks after the Sallah celebrations in Taraba and parts of Kaduna State, including Kajuru and Kachia local government areas.
Security authorities, however, reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and order across the state and assured residents that they remain fully prepared to respond swiftly to any potential threat.
