By Abuja – The Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence has dismissed as false and malicious reports circulating on social media alleging that the Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, plans to resign from office.
In a public disclaimer issued on Tuesday, 21st July 2026, the Minister’s office described the claim as “entirely fabricated” and the handiwork of individuals intent on spreading misinformation.
The statement stressed that there is no truth whatsoever in the rumour and reaffirmed that General Musa remains fully committed to his responsibilities as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence.
According to the statement, the Minister is “fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy with results already being seen.”
The office urged members of the public to ignore the circulating reports, describing them as fake news designed to mislead Nigerians.
It also cautioned media organisations, bloggers, and social media users against disseminating unverified information while advising them to seek clarification directly from the Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence before publishing sensitive reports.
The statement was signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Leah Katung-Babatunde, who reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to keeping the public accurately informed on matters concerning the Minister and the nation’s defence sector.
The Ministry appealed to Nigerians to rely on credible and official sources for information and to avoid amplifying rumours capable of creating unnecessary anxiety or undermining public confidence.
