Abuja, Nigeria
The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria will host the eighth Nigeria–European Union (EU) Ministerial Dialogue on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Tafawa Balewa House, in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, Nigeria’s delegation will be led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, while the European Union team will be headed by Kaja Kallas, who is also the Vice-President of the European Commission. Kallas is expected to arrive in Abuja on Sunday ahead of the high-level dialogue. During her visit, she will hold bilateral talks with Tuggar to review Nigeria–EU relations and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation across key sectors.
As part of her engagements, the EU High Representative will also pay a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties between both parties.
The statement added that a joint press briefing by the Nigerian Foreign Minister and the EU High Representative is scheduled to take place after the meeting, where both sides will outline the outcomes of the dialogue and highlight areas of further collaboration.
The Ministerial Dialogue is expected to focus on critical areas including trade and investment, security cooperation, governance, migration, climate action, and sustainable development. Officials say the meeting will serve as a strategic platform to deepen the long-standing partnership between Nigeria and the European Union, built on shared values such as multilateralism, mutual respect, and cooperation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with the EU and expressed optimism for a productive and forward-looking engagement.
