The Lagos State government announced today on their social media accounts that an individual named Esther Olasantan, who hails from Isolo community, bought a carton of fish on January 30, 2026. The government stated that the fish spoiled after she bought it.
“Upon reporting the issue to the cold room management, she was informed that neither a refund nor a replacement would be provided for the damaged goods,” the government said.
The government claimed that she was directed to the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) office in Ikeja so they could step in and help resolve the issue.
The statement added that the head of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, called the cold room management to come for a meeting so they can talk and settle the issue.
According to the government, after they discussed and settled the issue, the cold room management agreed to refund ₦180,000 for the fish and also add ₦20,000 to compensate Olasantan.
The state government concluded by stating that the action made things right and also said that consumers have rights that are protected.
