AfrikTimes has documented incidents of bullying in Nigerian schools, highlighting incidents in Abuja and Benin City. The report portrays the patterns of the incidents and the responses of schools and authorities.

In April 2024, a video circulated online of a student, Namtira Bwala, being physically assaulted by a classmate at Lead British International School in Abuja. The video showed the student  was slapped and pushed while other students observed the incident. Following the circulation of the video which went viral, the school temporarily closed its campus for an internal investigation. The FCT Police Command also visited the school to investigate the incident.

Weeks following the incident, Namtira Bwala filed a civil lawsuit by her legal representatives at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, claiming that the school failed to provide a safe environment and requesting a public apology and compensation for physical and emotional harm.

AfrikTimes also monitored a separate incident in March 2026 at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City. A video recorded and circulated online showed several students physically attacking their fellow student. The school said that the students involved were expelled following an internal investigation. The Edo State Police Command initiated a formal investigation, and the Edo State Ministry of Education established a committee to examine the incident and recommend further disciplinary measures. Parents of the students involved were asked to provide formal statements to support the investigation.
