Oyo Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers, Bust Motorcycle Theft Syndicate in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers believed to be directly linked to a previous kidnapping operation of a female resident, Remi (other names withheld).

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Thursday, April 23, confirmed that arrest of Musa Ajibola (29), Hassan Mohammadu (63) and Umaru Hassan (19) at Latayo Farm Settlement in Ile-ido on Tuesday, April 21, was through the assistance of an actionable information provided by members of the public.

“Following such credible intelligence provided by members of the public, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, promptly directed a coordinated operation which led to the arrest of three suspects—Musa Ajibola ‘M’ (29), Hassan Mohammadu ‘M’ (63), and Umaru Hassan ‘M’ (19)—on 21/04/2026 at Latayo Farm Settlement, Ile-Ido, all of whom have been directly linked to the kidnapping and subsequent release of the victim,” the statement said.

Mr. Ayanlade further added that the victim, Remi, was abducted on April 3rd, 2026 and later regained her freedom on April 21, 2026, the same day her abductors were apprehended.

He further noted that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime, providing investigators with crucial information to track down other accomplices.

“In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, thereby providing further insight into the criminal operation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement added.

The command acknowledged the sustained efforts of members of the public in the provision of credible intelligence. The command further charged citizens to remain hopeful in the activities of the police and sustain the ongoing partnership.

“Consequently, the Command acknowledges and commends the invaluable cooperation of members of the public whose timely and credible information has been instrumental to this achievement, noting that such collaboration remains the backbone of effective policing and crime prevention.

“While commending this support, the Commissioner of Police encourages citizens to deepen their trust in the Police and sustain this partnership through continuous intelligence sharing, mutual respect, and active engagement, as collective vigilance and cooperation remain key to building a safer and more secure society for all, he added.

In a separate operation, the Command revealed that it also arrested two suspects of a motorcycle theft network specialised in stealing and selling motorcycles across state lines.

According to a statement signed by the police spokesperson, Ibrahim Adebisi, 24, confessed to stealing parked motorcycles from Ilesa, Osun state, and transporting them to Hussein Haruna, 23, in Ojoo axis of Ibadan, for sale.

“Following credible intelligence received, regarding the criminal activities of one Ibrahim Adebisi ‘M’, aged 24, who specialises in stealing motorcycles from where they are parked, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, promptly directed a coordinated operation. Acting on this directive, a police team swiftly moved into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect at his residence without incident.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and further disclosed that he operates by stealing motorcycles from Ilesa in Osun State and transporting them to the Ojoo area of Ibadan for sale. Acting on this revelation, the police team proceeded to the Ojoo axis, where one Hussein Haruna ‘M’, aged 23, was apprehended. He also confessed to being a receiver of stolen motorcycles,” the statement detailed.

Items recovered after investigations include two unregistered Boxer motorcycles and one unregistered TVS Neo NX ladies’ motorcycle.

The command added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and to recover stolen motorcycles on the streets, noting that it is strongly committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
