The Students’ Union of the University of Ibadan has announced a series of resolutions reached with the university management following a protest and emergency congress held on Tuesday, 6 of May.
The union leadership, alongside representatives from faculty associations, hall chairpersons, and the Students’ Representative Council, met with the Vice Chancellor to present students’ demands over pressing welfare concerns on campus.

According to a statement dated May 6, 2026 and jointly signed by Students’ Union President, Temidayo S. Adeboye, and General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, the management agreed to immediately improve electricity supply across the university.
The union disclosed that measures to stabilize power on campus would take effect immediately in response to students’ complaints about poor electricity conditions.
The university management also approved the reopening of the University Health Service to provide medical care for students, following shutdown after the Non-academics Staff Union went on strike. The union stated that the University Health Centre had been directed to resume operations immediately in order to restore access to essential healthcare services for students on campus.
Another major resolution reached was the approval process for the use of cooking gas in halls of residence. The statement explained that preparations had been finalized and that an official memorandum approving the use of cooking gas would be released by the management within two weeks.
Speaking on the outcome of the negotiations, the union leadership urged students to resume academic activities while discussions with stakeholders continue.
“We commend the courage shown during this morning’s protest and the unity displayed at the Congress. We will remain vigilant to ensure that Management honors every part of this agreement.” The statement read.
