FG Approves Southern Campus of Nigeria Police Academy in Abeokuta

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a Southern Campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening police professionalism and national security through education.

‎The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, disclosed this while reaffirming the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to repositioning the Nigeria Police Force through improved training and institutional reforms.

‎According to the minister, the new campus has already received presidential approval and will operate as an affiliate of the existing police academy in Kano.

‎Alausa stated that academic activities at the proposed institution are expected to commence between September and November 2026. He explained that the initiative is designed to expand access to quality police education, modernise law enforcement training, and produce officers equipped to meet contemporary security challenges across the country.‎

‎“The proposed campus has received presidential approval and will function as an affiliate of the existing Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, with academic activities scheduled to commence between September and November 2026,” the minister said.‎

‎The minister also revealed that the Federal Government is currently implementing reforms to upgrade more than 40 police colleges nationwide into monotechnics and specialised training centres. ‎

‎He added that the reforms are backed by a presidential waiver to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the initiative and assured the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to support its implementation.
