The Oyo State Police Command says it has arrested eight suspected members of a motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered four suspected stolen motorcycles in Kishi, Oyo State.
According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation was carried out on May 8, 2026, following credible intelligence that some individuals were in possession of motorcycles suspected to have been stolen within Kishi town.
The statement noted that operatives attached to the Kishi Division swiftly mobilised for the operation at about 8:30 p.m., leading to the arrest of eight suspects identified as Akeem Kehinde, 20; Rasaq Muhideen, 35; Jimoh Musakiru, 28; Ganiyu Saheed, 30; Iliasu Abdullahi, 25; Owonikoko Nurudeen, 27; Mukaila Ibrahim, 26; and Badmos Awwal, 26.
Police said the suspects were found in suspicious possession of motorcycles believed to have been stolen.
“Following their arrest, preliminary investigation was immediately commenced, which led to the recovery of four suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycles in their possession, thereby strengthening the initial intelligence received and confirming the suspected criminal activity,” the statement read.
The command further disclosed that the suspects confessed during interrogation and admitted to their various roles in the alleged theft and unlawful possession of the motorcycles.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to their various levels of involvement in the unlawful possession and theft of the motorcycles,” the police added.
The command said further investigations are ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and uncover other members or collaborators linked to the syndicate.
The police also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies through timely intelligence sharing and community cooperation, stressing that effective policing depends on collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public.
