‎Barau emerged as the APC candidate for Kano North Senatorial District after party members endorsed him during a consensus affirmation exercise held in Bichi Local Government Area.

The exercise drew delegates and party supporters from the 13 LGAs within the district, alongside officials of the party and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

‎In Kogi Central, Yahaya Bello won across the five local government areas in the district to clinch the APC ticket. Results announced at the end of the exercise showed Bello polling 72,399 votes.
