Swedish top-flight side AIK Football have confirmed that Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna will not be released for the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London.

In a statement published on Thursday, May 21, the club said the decision was taken due to the player’s ongoing rehabilitation process and his importance to the team.

“AIK Football is proud of Zadok Yohanna who has been selected for the Nigerian national team for their participation in the Unity Cup in London,” the club stated.

“However, Zadok is in an important final stage of his rehabilitation and the club has therefore decided not to release him on national team duty this time.”

The club added that although it is delighted with the recognition earned by the youngster, it considered his recovery and sporting importance to the side before arriving at the decision.

“The decision not to let him travel to London is based partly on the fact that he is in rehabilitation, but also on sporting reasons, as Zadok is an important player for AIK Football,” the statement added.

AIK further expressed confidence that the winger would still have opportunities to represent Nigeria in future international engagements.

“We look forward to seeing Zadok represent the Nigerian national team in the future,” the club noted.

AfrikTimes earlier reported that the 18-year-old right winger was recently included in Eric Chelle’s squad for the Unity Cup scheduled to hold in London from May 26 to May 30, 2026.

Yohanna joined AIK on June 29, 2025, signing a contract that runs until December 31, 2029. After initially featuring for the club’s Under-19 side, he impressed enough to earn promotion to the first team.

The youngster has scored three goals for AIK senior team in the 2026 season so far.
