Lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has dismissed a circulating audio recording allegedly linked to social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, describing it as doctored and falsely attributed to his client.
In a statement released by Deji Adeyanju & Partners, dated May 27, 2026, the legal team said the controversial audio being shared online did not originate from VeryDarkMan and was never posted on any of his verified social media platforms.
The statement came in response to comments reportedly made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, concerning the audio clip.
According to the lawyers, a basic verification of VeryDarkMan’s official accounts would have shown that he neither created nor distributed the recording.
”A simple verification of our client’s verified social media platforms would have confirmed that he neither made nor shared the said audio” the statement read.
The legal team expressed disappointment that comments were made against their client without what they described as proper fact-checking, despite the resources available to the Presidency.
The statement said the incident reinforces concerns previously raised by VeryDarkMan about alleged attempts by powerful individuals within government circles to silence or discredit him because of his outspoken stance on public affairs.
”This development further validates our client’s longstanding concerns regarding attempts to cage him by powerful people in government and discredit him on account of his outspoken views on matters of public interest” the firm said.
Adeyanju’s law firm also called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the audio and identify those responsible for its circulation.
“We accordingly call on the relevant security agencies to investigate the source and circulation of the doctored audio and ensure that those responsible are identified and dealt with in accordance with the law.” the statement added.
