The Oyo State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles and motorcycles with unmarked, fake, obscured, or improperly covered number plates.
The initiative, which began on Thursday, is aimed at ensuring compliance with vehicle identification regulations and improving the security architecture of the State, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Friday, June 3.
“The Oyo State Police Command, in furtherance of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure environment and in line with ongoing efforts to rid the State of violent crime and other forms of criminality, has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting unmarked vehicular objects, fake and obscured number plates, as well as unauthorized covering of vehicle plates.
“This enforcement action, which commenced yesterday, is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with lawful vehicle identification standards and enhancing overall public safety and security architecture within the State,” the statement read.
The Command warned that individuals found violating the directive would be arrested, while affected vehicles and motorcycles would be impounded in accordance with existing laws and operational procedures.
According to the statement, the operation forms part of measures being implemented to combat violent crime and other criminal activities across Oyo State.
“These measures are part of a broader security framework designed to deter criminal activities, enhance rapid response capabilities, and strengthen public confidence in policing operations,” the statement noted
The police also announced plans to sustain intermittent stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led patrols, and coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots across the state.
In addition, Mr. Ayanlade disclosed that there would be increased police visibility and strategic deployment of personnel in key urban and rural locations to enhance security.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with officers during the enforcement exercise, stressing that the operation is being carried out in the interest of public safety.
The police further assured residents that all enforcement activities would be conducted professionally, lawfully, and with respect for fundamental human rights.
