By The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred on Monday, prompting the deployment of emergency responders and relevant authorities to the scene.
In a brief statement issued on Monday evening, June 8, 2026, the corporation said response teams were already attending to the situation and providing assistance to those affected.
According to the statement signed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, disclosed that it is closely monitoring developments surrounding the incident while efforts continue to manage the situation.
”We confirm that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service occurred today,” the statement read.
The corporation also assured the public that more information would be released as investigations and emergency operations progress.
”A detailed statement will be issued as soon as more information becomes available,” the NRC stated.
The railway operator appealed for calm, urging members of the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate updates regarding the incident.
