The Ogun State Police Command has foiled an attempt to kidnap a Chinese national and arrested two suspects identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the suspects allegedly planned to abduct the foreign national and extort ₦50 million as ransom.
The Command said the suspects were arrested on June 9, 2026, following intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende Division indicating an imminent kidnap plot along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.
“Acting on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives of the Division, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis, where the suspects were promptly intercepted and arrested, thereby thwarting the execution of the planned crime,” the statement said.
The police further disclosed that one of the suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena, was identified as an interpreter and driver within the victim’s company and allegedly exploited his position to facilitate the planned abduction.
The Command added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend another suspect who remains at large, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation into the full extent of the criminal conspiracy.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift response of the operatives and the effective use of intelligence that led to the arrests.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and provide useful information that could assist the police in preventing and combating crime.
