By A suspected drug hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area of Delta State, has been dismantled by operatives of the state police command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, resulting in the arrest of a 56-year-old man and the seizure of 21 bags of suspected Indian hemp.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement to journalists in Warri on Sunday, linking the operation to the crime-fighting drive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to Edafe, VCRU operatives moved in on August 8 after receiving what he called “credible and actionable intelligence” about the location. A search of the premises during the raid turned up the 21 bags of weed, while the suspect, identified as Lucky Oyiboka, was taken into custody.
Edafe said early findings point to Oyiboka’s alleged role in distributing illicit drugs, adding that detectives are now working to map out the wider network behind the operation and track down anyone else tied to it. He said Oyiboka would remain in detention until the case is ready for court.
Separately, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, restated the command’s focus on intelligence-driven operations to break up drug networks in Delta, and appealed to residents to keep sharing credible tips with officers, promising that anyone who comes forward would have their identity protected.
