By Former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has pushed back against claims that he is preparing to dump the All Progressives Congress for the Allied People’s Movement, insisting his loyalty to the ruling party has not wavered.
The clarification came through a statement released by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, on Friday in Ibadan.
The denial follows unverified reports alleging that Adelabu’s personal assistant, Ajiboye Akande, had held talks with APM members to arrange the former minister’s defection ahead of the 2027 general elections. AfrikTimes has not independently verified these underlying defection claims.
Adelabu’s camp rejected the reports outright, saying neither the former minister nor his aide has any plan to exit the APC. The statement affirmed that he remains a dedicated party member who holds President Bola Tinubu, the APC’s national leader, in high regard as his political mentor.
It further stated that Adelabu believes in the party structure, respects its leadership, and stands by the democratic process — adding that his reputation for integrity means he will always defer to the party’s legitimate leadership decisions.
The former minister called on the public to dismiss the speculation, calling it a deliberate attempt to sow confusion. His statement specifically urged Nigerians to disregard any narrative linking him or Akande to an APM defection, describing the rumour as baseless and mischievous.
Adelabu was one of the contestants in the APC’s recent Oyo State governorship primary, which he lost to Senator Sharafadeen Ali, the eventual winner.
The controversy comes against a backdrop of broader political realignment as parties position themselves ahead of 2027.
