By The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has raised an alarm over what it describes as an imminent invasion of the state’s local government secretariats, alleging that PDP council executives elected in the February 22, 2025 poll are planning to seize control of all 30 council secretariats and the Area Office on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, made the allegation in a statement Wednesday, claiming the operation would be carried out with the backing of hardened political hoodlums drawn from within and outside the state.
According to the party, the planned move has been emboldened by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election and is being coordinated alongside the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, which Olabisi described as a “willing tool” of the state government. “Information has it that the illegally selected PDP local government council executives have employed the services of hardened and dangerous political hoodlums from within and outside the state to carry out the invasion any moment from now,” the statement read.
The APC leaned on a Supreme Court judgement it says renders the disputed PDP council executives “unknown to the law of the land,” and used that ruling to frame the alleged plan as both illegal and reckless given that the underlying legal question remains unsettled. The party noted that the substantive suit over the tenure of the reinstated APC council executives, previously decided against them at the Federal High Court, is still pending before the Court of Appeal in Akure. “The usual thing for all the parties to the suit to do is to allow the suit to traverse the full cycle of the courts as stipulated by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended,” Olabisi said, arguing there was no justification for taking matters into anyone’s own hands while the case remains active.
Olabisi didn’t stop at legal argument, invoking the memory of a past tragedy to underline the stakes. He warned that the situation could escalate into violence similar to the killing of Hon. Remi Abass, a reinstated APC council chairman in Irewole Local Government Area, and called the prospect of hoodlums disrupting public peace over a matter still before the courts a display of “no tact and diplomacy.”
The party has urged the Osun State Police Command, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to act ahead of Thursday to prevent a breakdown of law and order. Should violence break out regardless, Olabisi said security agencies should direct their scrutiny squarely at the disputed PDP council chairmen and the NULGE officials allegedly coordinating with them.
